Fine art is a visual art considered to have been created primarily for aesthetic purposes and judged for its beauty and meaning fullness, specifically, painting, sculpture, drawing, watercolor, graphics and architecture.

COLLEGE OF ART [DELHI]

College of Art is an institution established in 1942 for advanced training in Visual Art, creative and applied, leading to the Bachelor of Fine Art Course and Post Graduate Course of Master in Fine Art.

Fine Art today is a multi-dimensional process reaching nearly all aspects of nature and humanilty in search of form, expression and affirmation. The concerns of the artist spans the uniqueness of his/her own vision, the formative proces-sess of life experience, and the complexitiy of his/her participation. Factors motivating Design range from the common needs for food, shelter, clothing and communication to the most esoteric desires of esteem and self-realization. Design is a force that historically reflects both individual interpreattion, conditioned by changing environments and the restrains of materials and technologies of the time.

METHOD OF SECTION -BFA

A] A weightage of 60% marks will be given for Apitute Test.
1) OBJECT DRAWING (for all the specializations except Art History)
FOR ART HISTORY SPECIALIZATION ONLY
Candidates to identify and write their views / crit on three visuals on art.
2] GENERAL KNOWLEDGE for all the specializations)
3] Subjective and Objective type questions related to Art, Personalitites, Events and Current Affairs
4] COMPOSITION

ELIGIBILITY FOR BFA

The candidates seeking admission to BFA Degree Course must have passed with 50% or more marks in the aggregate of 5 subjects.

ELIGIBILITY FOR MFA

The candidate must have passed the Bachelor of Fine Art Degree of four year duration after 10+2 offered by the University of Delhi or an examination recognized equivalent thereto with 50% or more marks in the aggregate.

FOR APPLIED ART SPECIALZATION

Illustration from memory on a given subject in water color, tempera, ink or oil pastels on 1/4 imperial size paper. B] Weightage of 40% marks secured by the candidate in the 10+2 or equivalent examination.

METHOD OF SELECTION-MFA

The candidate will be required to appear before an Assessment Committee along with a Portfolio of Practical work and for Viva of the Programme of study submitted with the application form.

ABOUT FACULTY

Faculty of Fine Arts was founded in June 1950. For the first time in independent India, a programme of study was introduced to offer UG/Diploma, PG/Post Diploma courses and research facilities. Art was envisaged as an integral part of life for the new citizens. The emphasis was laid on individuality through knowledge of Indian and Western traditions.

ELIGIBILITY

B.A. (Fine) in Painting, Sculpture, Applied Arts and Art History (Higher Secondary-XII Std.) of Gujarat state with 'English' as one of the subjects, subject to passing the prescribed aptitude test to be held by the Faculty of Fine Arts.

The Faculty of Visual Arts is one of the leading institutions in Fine Arts. It offers Bachelor of Fine Arts and Master of Fine Arts and Master of Fine Arts courses and research programme in diferent specialized areas. It has various branches of specialization, viz. Applied Arts, Plastic Arts, Painting. It attracts and appreciable number of foreign students. The faculty stresses on optimum interaction with standard art activities all over the country, organizes Art Fairs and Art Exhibitions quite frequently. Many alumnae of the Faculty are holding top positions as Designers, Painters, Sculptors, Textile Designers, etc. The Faculty has an Axhibition Hall where exhibition of the paintings of the reputed national and international painters and sculptors are held. The teachers and students of the Faculty have participated in various national and international art exhibitions. The faculty endeavours to produce professionals with creative thinking who can play a positive role in society.

ABOUT THE INSTITUTE

Since 1981 this institute has been affiliated to the University of Mumbai as a college for teaching tha B.FA(Applied Art), degree course as prescribed by the University of Mumbai. All India Council for Technical Education, New Delhi too has accorded its approval for conducting B.FA in Applied Art, Degree course at this Institute. This institute has also been permitted by the University of Mumbai to start M.FA(Applied Art) Post Graduation course from the academic year 1988-89.
