SYMBIOSIS INSTITUTE OF DESIGN

Symbiosis Institute of Design (SID) is a Constituent of Symbiosis International University, established under Section 3 of UGC Act 1956 vide notification No. 9-12/2001-U.3 dated 10th November 2006 of UGC, Government of India.

Programmes at SID

Symbiosis Institute of Design presently offers an Under-Graduate Programme in Design and is under the 'Faculty of Media, Communication and Design' of the Symbiosis International University (SIU). SIU would award Bachelor of Design (B. Des) degree to the successful students in any one of the following disciplines viz. Communication Design, Industrial Design, Fashion Communication, Fashion Design and Textile Design.

Courses

The Bachelor of Design (B. Des) is a four years duration, 200 credit under-graduate degree programmes offered by SID and the degree is awarded by the Symbiosis International University (SIU), Pune, .This programme is aimed at creating professionals who can contribute to the highly dynamic and competitive world of Design.The curriculum at SID offers an optimum mix of traditional skills, new media skills (with state of the art software) and soft skills.

This one year long Programme is carefully designed to focus on the academic areas most useful in ones future study intentions.Students learn how to develop basic know-how and skills making effective use of the sketchbook, explore recording methods, develop visual perception, acquire professional attitudes to set projects and show a critical, contextual and historical awareness in the areas of design

Foundation Programme comprises of Semester 1 and 2 and is common for all disciplines of B. Des Programme.This short programme is followed with the five major disciplines interwoven with research, skills and visualization to enhance the academics with profession specific requirements.

The five major disciplines at SID have been categorized in the following areas

1. Communication Design
2. Industrial Design
3. Fashion Design
4. Textile Design
5. Fashion Communication

Specializations (Communication Design)

Communication Design especially further branches out after second year into four specializations viz.

1. Graphic Design
2. Video Film Design
3. Animation Film Design
4. User Experience Design

This gives a student an opportunity to excel his skills and design talents to prove his area of interest and thereby upgrade himself to synchronize with the industry standards of Design

1. Product Design
2. Interior Space Design

This gives a student an opportunity to excel his skills and design talents to prove his area of interest and thereby upgrade himself to synchronize with the industry standards of Design.

Admission Procedure for the First Year

All Indian students are required to take the Symbiosis Entrance Test (SET 2014), which will be held in May , 2015 .No candidate is entitled to seek admission to SID without a valid SET score.

Register online for SET 2014 at www.set-test.org. Facility of payment of SET fee and printing of Admit Card is available online. A student aspiring to pursue an undergraduate program at Symbiosis needs to follow the steps mentioned below:

Please note that a candidate has to apply for "SET" online at www.set-test.org and to the institute (SID) at www.sid.edu.inseparately and both registrations are must to be considered for further selection process.

Admission to SID will be according to the following process

Final selection would be based on the cumulative performance of the candidate in SET for Design, Studio Test and Personal Interaction as well as on the basis of the information provided by the candidate in the application form and his/her first preference of the disciplines offered.
